Review of Popular Diet Pills

Harry Lloyd

Weight loss and achieving better health are becoming priorities for many people today. Many are turning to anything that promises quick results such as OTC remedies and miracle pills. There is no quick solution to take off pounds that took years to put on. A healthy diet, low calorie intake, and daily exercise are the healthiest and most effective way to lose weight and not gain it back.

You will need to follow a low calorie diet regardless of whether you take diet pills or not if you wish to lose weight. It should not be an option to take a pill indefinitely to control your weight, as this is not a safe or sensible solution to weight gain. Diet pills are here to help, not to solve your weight problems.

These diet pills are some of the most popular in the media today:

- Clenbuterol
- Alli
- Xenical
- Ephedra
- Ma Huang
- Bitter orange
- Hoodia

Clenbuterol

This pill is better known in the news under the nickname Size Zero or Size 0 pill. It gets its name from the looks of its users. People who use this drug to lose weight look as though they are starved and need to eat some nourishing food. This is the pill fashion models use to get the skin and bones look. The drug is approved by the FDA to treat horses, it is not fit for consumption by humans. It speeds up the heart and raises body temperature, which burns fat. This drug will also cause loss of appetite for up to nine hours. This is not a safe drug.

Alli

Alli is a fat blocker or burner. It is an over the counter product for weight loss and has been approved by the FDA. Taking in too many calories and fat causes excessive weight gain. Alli keeps a portion of the fat you consume from being digested; about 25% of it is passed out of the body in the form of waste. Since your body does not use this fat it does not contribute to weight gain, this makes Alli an effective weight loss product.

You must only consume 15 grams of fat per meal for Alli to work as it should. Eating more fat than this can cause distressing problems such as diarrhea, gas, and other symptoms associated with the digestive tract.
The 15 grams of fat is a very restrictive limit on food. You must be able to follow this limitation for the Alli diet to work properly.

Xenical

Xenical is much like Alli, the two will have much the same results and diet restrictions.

Ephedra

Ephedra (ephedrine alkaloid) is an appetite suppressant found in some dietary supplements. Ephedra was once a common ingredient in many weight loss products. This drug is banned now due to its dangerous side effects. You can still find products containing ephedra for sale on the internet. Athletes are known to use ephedra to enhance their ability to perform in competitive sports. It is now banned for use in sports due to concerns about its safety.

Ma Huang

This is merely a Chinese name for ephedra and is illegal to use in the USA.

Bitter Orange

This is an over-the-counter (OTC) product being marketed as a substitute for Ephedra. It is said to speed calorie burning and thus promote quick weight loss. It will very likely cause serious problems like ephedra does. The effects of using this drug on a long-term basis are unknown.

Hoodia

This substance is extracted from a succulent cactus-like plant, which is native to the deserts of South Africa. It is marketed as a natural appetite suppressant. The FDA has not approved or evaluated this weight loss product.
