It's no surprise that sugar rich foods and drinks seem to be
converted to fat all too quickly. So why don't we just stop eating it.
Why don't we just say no to sweet drinks?
The answer is simple your brain craves carbohydrates (CHO) and CHO all break down to sugar in your system.
Of
course some CHO's like fruit and vegetables and whole grains have many
benefits such as vitamins, minerals and fibre. But the junky processed
foods and drinks just supply sugar without much benefit of any kind.
Our
brains are glucose driven. Sugar is a molecule of glucose and a
molecule of fructose joined together. We use a lot of glucose to think
move and genially function. We need to maintain healthy blood sugar
levels to be healthy.
We can get all the sugar we need from our complex CHO's; we do not need sweet junk foods and drinks to be healthy.
The
reason we seem to want more is not because we think we need an energy
hit it's because our brains become addicted to high sugar levels. Sugar
causes us to release dopamine, which makes us feel good.
But like
some drugs the levels required to keep this good feeling become larger
and larger. So when you go on a diet and cut out the junk food you are
guaranteed to feel bad. After all, your feel good drug of choice has
been taken away.
You are going cold turkey. So don't be surprised
if it is tough. So how do you manage the transition of being a sweet
tooth to being a healthy eater and losing weight.
1. Conscious Change.
Start to reduce the amount of sugar in your diet, even just a little at first.
Make sure you are not hungry when travelling or shopping. Carry an apple with you.
Drink water, add some lemon or mint if you don't like plain water.
2. Non Conscious change
